About transsexuality
Transsexuality – sex change surgery – Transsexuality is an identity disorder characterized by the desire to belong to the anatomically opposite sex.
For example, a person identified at birth as female, who lived and was perceived by others as a female person, may wish to be considered and recognized as male.
If this aspiration is strong and persistent, changes take place (from the way of dressing to surgical interventions) in order to have as many things as possible in common with men. In other words, he will choose to live in a style close to the type perceived more intensely on a mental level.
The prevalence of transsexuality is difficult to assess, because only a part of these people follow a treatment (the number being dependent on the socio-cultural ethos).
However, it is estimated that 1 man in 100,000 wants to be a woman, and 1 woman in 400,000 wants to be a man. In England, the ratio is 1 in 30,000 and 1 in 100,000 respectively.
In Sweden, the numbers are 1 in 37,000 and 1 in 103,000, respectively. The ratio would be 3 to 1 – men who want to be women compared to women who want to be men.
Transsexuality is a phenomenon present throughout history, which has manifested itself in several societies. The advances of the last decades in the field of medical science have made possible the transition from one to another with the help of hormones and surgery.
