OPTIMUS – Optim Optimorum method is a new method for determination by similarity the turbulent flow rate and the efficiencies of the double adjustable axial hydraulic turbine with an accuracy of about 1%, after a great number of measurements recived from the process, at 2 minutes time interval, for 2 years. 

The advantage of thid method is that, grows the efficiency of the turbine using the same amount of wather. For a turbine with D=9,5m diameter, theat method increased the power from 178MW up to 210MW.

Disruptive innovation is not revolutionary, because it does not overturn the established order, but introduces a novelty that fits perfectly into this order and that many people want but don’t have.

Hydropower technologies and operations will need to adapt to this changing model of operations, as many hydropower plants were designed to be optimized while providing constant, instead of flexible to increase more energy.

Additional modeling of the value and long-term costs of essential grid reliability services provided by hydropower  is critical to developing these new technologies and operational strategies.

  1. – OPTIM OPTIMORUM method open a new and innovative perspectiveimproves performance tehnology to increase efficiency at the axial hidropower units with double regulation Kaplan, Bulb, Deriaz increasing production capacity.
  2. – The method has been tested and applicated at a river hydropower plant of great capacity with small head and big dischargewith Kaplan turbines with D = 9,50 m diameter and P =178 MW nominal power, for every turbine. That method increased the power from 178 MW up to 210 MWthis meansincreasing production capacitymeaning MORE ELECTRICITY AT THE SAME AMOUNT OF WATER .
  3. – For the hidropower units cant work for a long time in this operating mode, the generator must be resized, to be able to take over the surplus power.
  4. – The avantage of this method is that it grows the efficiency of the turbine using the same amount of water, there is no need to build another hidropower units much bigger which consuming much more water to produce the same electricity, not least with big costs. 
  5. – The variable coefficient of supplementary correction K , for the scale effect, obtaing the industrial turbine hydraulic efficiency by solving an equation sistem (of similitude ) and correlation between certain parameters acquired from process, ensures the determination of the calibration of parameters and hydraulic coefficients of the exploitation with errors below 1%. 
  6. –  This coefficient K that the author puts at the disposal of the investors/partners, was obtained after a great number of measurements recived from the process, at 2 minutes time interval, for 2 years.  
  7. –  To implement this method it is necessary an interdisciplinary team consisting of hydraulicians, electricians,                                  IT programmers and automation specialist.  Note:
